Dr. Arif Saqui, FICD, MICOI, FICOI, DDS Hons., BHSc (Canada)

Dr. Arif Saqui practices dental surgery in the twin republic islands of Trinidad & Tobago, W.I.  His practice serves all ages in holistic general dental medicine and surgical care but has specialized in cosmetic, restorative and implant dental surgery.  

He graduated in 2004 with a dual Bachelors of Health Sciences (Biology & Health Sciences) Degree at the University of Western Ontario, Canada and subsequently attended the University of The West Indies, School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medical Sciences where he graduated with an Honours, Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS Hons.).

He holds a Mastership in Implant Prosthetics Dentistry (MICOI) and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (FICOI) and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD).

He has a strong passion for education and teaching in dentistry and continues to publish in various journal publications whilst participating in many educational seminars and community outreach programs.    

Skill and compassion go hand in hand when providing exceptional patient care.  As a dental professional, he stays up to date on the latest advancements in dentistry in order to provide the most current treatment options for his patients.  As a doctor, he recognizes that all patients are unique individuals who have placed a great deal of trust in him and his team. Dr. Darren Hamid, DDS, PGDip AARD

Dr. Darren Hamid graduated from The University of The West Indies in 2017.  He is past student of Presentation College San Fernando and passionate about dentistry and continuing his post-graduate education.

Together with Dr. Arif Saqui and the team at Parkview Practice, his goal is to put patients at ease with a comfortable environment, always providing information so that patients are encouraged to improve their oral health.

Mr. Valmiki Sharma qualified from the Welsh National School of Dentistry in 1998, having already gained an honours degree in Head & Neck Anatomy & Embryology from Cardiff university in 1995.

Having worked in both the hospital setting and general dental practice for three years, his interest in Head & Neck Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery led to him pursuing a hospital based career. His special interest in Oral Surgery and particularly Implant Dentistry was developed during several Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery posts as well as undertaking a period of research at the University of California- San Francisco.

Graduating in Medicine from Glasgow in 2001 and carrying out his surgical training at some of the most prestigious centres for surgical excellence in the Europe, he was awarded dual Fellowships to the Royal College of Surgeons of England picking up several awards and prizes along the way. He is also a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

He is currently Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The Royal Free Hospital Foundation Trust, London where he is the Trauma Lead and is an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital. 

Internationally, he is Head of Department for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at San Fernando General Hospital, Trinidad and Honorary Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at Princess Marina Hospital, Botswana.

His private practice principally features Facial Plastic Surgery, Advanced Oral Surgery, Dental Implantology and TMJ disorders.

Mr. Sharma is a clinical and academic tutor as well as a mentor for trainees at all levels from medical and dental students to those coming to their consultant level examinations. He has lectured extensively as well as organised and run courses both nationally & internationally.

He is also heavily engaged in academia having published several articles in high impact, peer reviewed journals.

He remains dedicated to the alleviation of Oral & Maxillofacial deformity and pathology especially in the developing world and to this end is actively setting up a program and service to address these issues in the West Indies.

Dr. Anjani Sharma (Anj) graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2006. After qualifying she completed her post graduate training at the prestigious John Radcliffe Oxford University and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals in the UK.

Following completion of her basic hospital training in neurology, paediatrics, general medicine and surgery, she undertook formalized training as a family physician in a gold standard practice in Buckinghamshire. During this time she developed a special interest in chronic non-communicable disease prevention and management, in particular heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and healthy weight management. 

Her excellence in this post resulted in her being awarded a coveted position with the Buckinghamshire health authority as a Leadership Fellow for Health Promotion.  Thereafter she became engaged as a physician in a busy family practice and took on the role of specialty doctor in Palliative (end of life) Care at the world renowned Florence Nightingale Hospice.  

Her work has exposed her to a diverse cross-section of patients and provided her with deep insight regarding issues affecting individual health and well-being, across ages, against the wider backdrop of family and community life.

Her passion for the promotion of health and wellbeing across the human life-span led to her pursuit of post graduate research in health communication and education to support healthy weight and lifestyles for families.

Until recently Dr. Sharma fulfilled the role of diabetic lead in a 10 000 patient training practice in the UK which during her stewardship had and maintained a rating of “excellent” for diabetes and chronic disease management.  During this time Dr. Sharma also immersed herself in supervising and training junior doctors in family practice.

Her passion for public service and healthcare equality led to her working at the Ministry of Health Trinidad and Tobago in the area of childhood obesity prevention where she advised on curriculum development for Health and Family Life Education with the Ministry of Education Trinidad and Tobago, conducted multiple research and health education projects as well as developed materials for research, health communication and health promotion in schools. Dr. Sharma has also presented on non-communicable diseases in a variety of settings, including for CARPHA, UWI and in various international symposia on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago.

Following her tenure at the Ministry of Health Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Sharma started work and continues to work closely with Professor Teelucksingh in the management of patients with complex medical and endocrine conditions.

Throughout her career Dr. Sharma has been active in outreach and volunteer work both in the UK and in Trinidad and Tobago, with particular emphasis on child and family health in various communities without mainstream access to healthcare.  She is particularly proud of her extensive role in health promotion at schools throughout the length and breadth of Trinidad.

Dr. Sharma is a highly skilled physician and is a warm and empathic practitioner with a genuine approach to managing her patients in a personal, comprehensive and continuous manner so as to address their health and wellbeing needs.

In addition to this skill set, Dr Sharma has been trained in Aesthetic medicine with a particular interest in minimally invasive and injectable therapies.  She also benefits from having UK trained and based consultant surgeons for discussion and management of patients where more involved procedures are likely to be required and has a sound knowledge of the possibilities regarding optimization of facial cosmesis.


Dr. Sandeep Balkaran, BMSc., M.B.B.S. (UWI), Dip. Family Medicine (UWI)

Family Physician

Dr. Sandeep Balkaran graduated from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies with the MBBS degree in 2010 and then completed training in the UEI’s Siloam in Family Medicine in 2017. He had been in medical practice for the last ten years serving as medical Resident in the Adult Emergency Dept of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and as a Primary Care Physician (PCP) I and PCP II to date.

During this time he has acquired considerable skills and experience in Critical Care medicine, Emergency and Trauma management, and general medical and surgical care of patients.

He has also had training stints in Diabetic foot care and other wound care and treatment at the Midway Specialty Care Clinic in Port St Lucie, Florida, US and has worked with care and management of childhood illnesses and preventive care working with experienced Paediatricians.

His goal is to always provide a very high quality of holistic medical care to all his patients.

Dr. Kiera Lourenco is a dedicated and compassionate general pediatrician at Parkview Practice.  With a strong educational background, Dr. Lourenco holds an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and a DM (Doctor of Medicine) in Pediatrics, making her a highly qualified and knowledgeable healthcare professional.

Throughout Dr. Lourenco’s career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to providing exceptional care for children. Her passion for pediatrics is evident in her ability to establish strong connections with young patients and their families. Dr. Lourenco possesses extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of pediatric conditions, ensuring the well-being and healthy development of her patients.

Dr. Ronand Ramroop, MBBS, DM Paediatrics (UWI), Paed. Cardiology(UofT)

Paediatric Cardiologist

Dr. Ramroop completed his MBBS, followed by a Doctorate of Medicine in Paediatrics at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. As a Consultant Paediatrician at the EWMSC, he developed a keen interest in cardiac diseases which propelled him to seek advanced specialization in the field.

In 2013, Dr. Ramroop pursued a Fellowship in Core Cardiology at the University of Toronto. Here, he honed his expertise in congenital heart disease at the Labatt Family Heart Center, Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He further amplified his skills in 2016 by undertaking a Fellowship in Paediatric Echocardiography, focusing on imaging congenital heart lesions using various techniques like transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, as well as fetal echocardiography. In 2018, he had also completed a Fellowship in Congenital Interventional Cardiology, which involves cardiac catheterisation for diagnosing and treating congenital heart defects.

Currently, Dr. Ramroop serves as the Paediatric Cardiologist at the Wendy Fitzwilliam Children's Hospital.
